Game of Homes: Your Home is Your Castle

GOT imgWhile UK households might not be facing an invasion of White Walkers and ice dragons; fires, floods and theft are all real disasters that can occur in our homes. Whether we live in Kingston or Kings Landing, our homes are our castles, and it’s important to ensure that preventative home-protection measures are in place, before a small problem turns into an insurance headache.

So how can we protect our homes against fire and ice? Smart technology is one of the easiest and most reassuring ways of protecting our homes and keeping our priceless belongings safe. Here’s how:

Fire

House fires are one of the most serious risks to your home. Most house fires, however, are caused by domestic appliances, not fire breathing dragons. The consumer watchdog Which? found that 3,203 fires in the UK were caused by faulty appliances between 1 April 2016 and 31 March 31 2017 alone.

In the year ending September 2018, the Fire and Rescue Services (FRSs) attended 582,551 incidents. Of all these incidents, fires accounted for 31%, false fire alarms 40% and none-fire incidents 29%. As a prevention method, FRSs recommend installing both fire alarms and smoke sensors in your home.

Ice

Winter is always coming, so make sure you protect your home from water damage. A lot of water can go to waste from seemingly small leaks. Water Intelligence calculated that a 3mm hole in a metal pipe at 40psi leaks 8,450 litres in 24hrs, and a pinhead can leak a staggering 1,363,750 litres in a year.

Not all issues are preventable so it’s important that homeowners have an insurance policy in place, but smart technology can help stop issues before they effect your home.

At Neos, we combine the two; we can actively help you get to know your home inside and out, giving you the confidence that your home is being looked after, even when you’re not there.
